The study engaged research participants that are at least 18 years old, English-speaking, and identify in one of the following groups:
experienced sexual assault while serving in the United States Military,
experienced sex trafficking, or
experienced prostitution / sex trading
Study participants were invited to complete a survey and interview, virtually or in-person. Study participants received $45 for their time to complete research activities.
Research participants will be provided with links or directly connected to supportive services, as needed.

The study includes a survey and interview.
The survey is designed to help the researcher understand your perspective and expertise as it relates to public narrative and your experiences. The survey includes 5 forms and a short demographic questionnaire. The survey collects data on your life experiences, symptoms or problems you experience, coping strategies for managing distressing events, social support, and your perception or understanding of public narrative. The survey is expected to take approximately 15 - 20 minutes.
The interview includes questions that are designed to help the researcher understand your perspective and expertise as it relates to public narrative and your experiences. The interview is expected to take approximately 1 hour.
There are no known risks in taking part in this study and no personal risks or benefits. Your insights could be helpful to researchers as they seek insights into this topic area. Participants should be aware that the study does talk about narrative and experiences related to past events in your life that could be upsetting or distressing. You can stop participation at any time and will be provided with links and other resources if needed.

All of your data, both survey and interview data, will be kept confidential. Your name will be replaced with a numeric identifier and any other identifying information will be removed from interview notes. All data will be stored on password-protected computers or in a secure file. Only the researchers working on this study will have access to this information. Any reporting of your data will be anonymized, using pseudonyms or numeric identifiers.
Research participants have rights. This research has been approved by the Institution Review Board at the University of Minnesota.
